Job Description:

CSRA has an opportunity for a Endpoint Systems Engineer to join our highly functioning IT consulting team supporting the scientific research environment at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). In this role, you will serve as the primary subject matter expert for NHGRI’s endpoint management system.

This team works closely with the Operations and the Security teams to generate and support a breath of applications, workstations (PC and Mac) for approximately 900 users and database patches and scripts – Oracle, MS SQL Server, and MySQL running on Linux/Unix and Windows.

Position is for full time employment with CSRA and will be based at our customers office located at 5635 Fisher Lane, Suite 1400; Rockville, MD.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish automated system configuration routines through custom packages and multi-language scripting in order to optimize system performance, install software, patches, and maintain security protocols

  • Ensure all endpoint software and configurations are aligned with NIH/HHS organizational standards and security baselines

  • Serve as primary support team escalation resource for troubleshooting advanced system issues on all Windows, macOS, and Linux devices

  • Create custom software packages for mass deployment on all platforms (Windows, macOS, Linux) utilizing multiple coding languages for both first and third-party applications

  • Manage Windows Server environment, updates, and images

  • Manage NHGRI baseline images for deployment and maintain the primary enterprise OS images across various hardware requirements ie: MDT, NetBoot, etc.

  • Baseline establishment and management for most hardware platforms in use at NHGRI and current Windows, Mac and several Linux Operating Systems

  • Create custom configuration profiles for macOS management across the IC

  • Threat detection and response

  • Plan and execute major organizational projects such as OS Migrations, system lifecycles, network modernizations, and implementation of end-user back solutions

  • Collaborate with various department teams to create a standardized environment

  • Work with Security Team to develop custom tools for security remediation and vulnerability management

  • Support design reviews and milestones as necessary

  • Application license management

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with endpoint/remote management tools such as Bomgar, Absolute Manage, LANrev, Remote Desktop, Apple Remote Desktop

  • Familiarity with enterprise security, AV management, and LAN support applications for Windows and macOS: ESET, Nessus, FireEye, Carbon Black, Tenable, Splunk, PowerBroker, Cisco VPN

  • Strong background in CLI, coding languages, scripting ie: PowerShell, Batch, Bash, Shell, Python, VBScript

  • Experience with Smart Card services and middleware support

  • Experience with ticketing systems and metrics

  • Experience with enterprise virtualization ie: ESXi, VMware, vSphere

  • Experience with advanced COTS software troubleshooting

  • Custom applications for collection and collation of workstation management and compliance data

  • Deep understanding of high-end technologies and skills involved with scientific workstations, servers, and storage devices in an IT enterprise environment

Desired Skills/Experience

  • High-level understanding of Group Policy baseline configurations for all Windows devices

  • High-level understanding of Active Directory permissions, authentication, and structure

  • Familiarity with storage arrays and backup-solutions
