Job Description:

GDIT is seeking a Junior Technical Writer to support Hosting, Operations and Maintenance (HOM) services for HIGLAS. This effort includes developing and maintaining a secure and certified architecture to support e- Government initiatives; minimize the CMS security risk and enhance the protection of privacy and security of data; and improve the CMS’ ability to accommodate the growing workload.

This position requires the ability to pass a CMS background check and meet the residency requirement for having resided in the US at least three out of the last five years.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works with technical staff to develop documentation requirements, develops outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists and project management, and ensures that final documents meet applicable contract requirements and regulations

  • Reviews and edits documents developed by others to ensure accuracy and quality of content, organization, language, format consistency, and conformance with established standards

  • Edits technical documents including business proposals, reports, manuals, briefings and presentations, guidelines, flow diagrams, and other project deliverables to meet contract requirements

  • Supports the data and deliverables management process and may submit documentation to the client.

  • Performs periodic reviews of documents for updates

  • Researches, analyzes, writes, edits, and proofreads technical data for use in documents or sections of documents such as manuals, procedures, and specifications.

  • Attends meetings such as those that determine software requirements, writing system requirement specifications, software specifications, end user documentation, and any other required documentation as part of the contract deliverable.

  • Creates meeting notes and documents Action Items that come out of those meetings.

  • Creates Agenda’s for meetings.

  • Aides in creating Status Reports to the client.

  • Ensures technical documentation is accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications, and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style.

  • Participates in establishing style guidelines and standards for text and illustrations.

  • Prepare illustrative material, such as diagrams and charts using MS Visio and/or MS Excel.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • BA or equivalent

  • Mastery of MS Word and MS PowerPoint

  • Experience with MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Visio, and SharePoint (or similar Web-based data repository)

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • One year technical writing experience

  • Section 508 Compliance of Documentation: knowledge of Alt. Text and electronic readers
