Job Description:

GDIT is seeking a Network Security Engineer to join the Security Team at the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to provide secure protection of its systems and data. NLM's mission is to be the nation's primary library supporting biomedical schools across the US.


  • Identifies, evaluates, recommends, and implements information systems security tools appropriate to protecting NLM’s information resources.

  • Responds to systems and network security incidents, e.g., system compromise, loss of confidentiality, authentication problems, etc.

  • Implements and maintains an enterprise intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS) to monitor network traffic and block malicious activities.

  • Installs, implements, and maintains network firewalls that prevent unauthorized access to NLM’s internal networks.

  • Processes and reviews network firewall rule exception requests to ensure the request meets NIH and NLM policy and perimeter protection standard.

  • Validates security scans for the requested public-facing applications to ensure there are no open vulnerabilities requiring mitigation. Implements or adjusts pertinent network firewall rules.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • BS or the equivalent and five years related experience or a MS or the equivalent and three years related experience.

  • Five years network security and incident handling experience.

  • Experience managing vulnerability management tools, firewalls, intrusion detection systems.

  • Minimum of two years experience with requirements analysis principles and methods.

  • Minimum of three years experience information systems security principles and methods

  • Certifications: Must be able to obtain a CISSP certification within first year of employment

  • Must be able to obtain a Level 2 Secret (ANACI) clearance

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience with Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, and/or Juniper Firewall products.

  • Log Analysis Experience (ArcSight, Splunk)

  • Network Security related certifications

  • Position is for full time employment and will be based at our client's office in Bethesda, MD; offering a flexible work schedule Monday through Friday around core business hours.
