Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Full Stack Developer with strong skills and hands-on experience in a DevOps environment to support a development of and continued enhancements to support a progression from a paper based system towards an automated (or computer-assisted) processing environment. Your contributions and leadership will be vital to providing a high quality user experience to our customers. You will utilize your highly proficient Java and Grails skills to incorporate new technologies into the application platform.

In your role as the Senior Full Stack Developer, you will work within agile teams to develop customer-centric applications that support Veterans and their families in receiving benefits and services. You will perform complex analysis, design, development, testing, and debugging of computer software ranging from operating system architecture integration and software design to selection of computer systems, language, and/or equipment. Your activities will include designing, coding, and testing of systems using test driven development techniques and improving overall performance of any application or module under examination.

You will be required to be a quick learner who can readily adapt to new technologies and rapidly changing requirements.

Responsibilities:

As the Senior Full Stack Developer, you will:

Design and build solutions consistent with enterprise architecture reference standards.

Work closely with the technical and leadership teams to actively identify and log technical issues or risks associated with a project, escalating them, as appropriate, and possibly implementing mitigation strategies for risk prevention and timely resolution.

Manage a team of developers who are responsible for multiple, complex, cross-functional projects by providing training, mentoring/coaching, setting priorities/direction, monitoring quality, and managing performance.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience, plus nine or more years of related experience.

  • Must be Proficient on Linux platforms with knowledge of various scripting languages, developing highly available and responsive web applications systems.

  • Must have a good understanding of front-end CSS, javascript, ajax and servlet programing.

  • Must have strong skills and expertise with back-end SOAP and RESTful service applications.

  • Must have working knowledge of GitHub, JSON tools as well as browser based debugging tools.

  • Hands-on experience in DevOps best practices, processes and tools.

  • Experience with Maven and Jenkins (ideally in a multi-server build farm) and Nexus.

  • Experience supporting deployments, troubleshooting issues, etc. in an AWS clustered environment.

  • Experience with (in order of importance): Grails, Groovy, Java, Spring Framework, Spring Security, Hibernate, OpenText, Nodejs, Jenkins, GitHub.

  • Strong knowledge AWS, developing application using server-side JavaScript (Node.js, MySQL, NoSQL as well as traditional SQL databases)

  • Strong experience and skills at diagnosing exception stack-traces and examining application log files as well as oracle table data.

  • Experience with JDBC and JEE technologies with ability to facilitate the sharing and exploration data through easy to use graphical interfaces and API endpoints.

  • Experience working with business partners of varying levels to understand, expand, and gather system requirements.

  • Enthusiasm for learning and results oriented.

Additional Qualifications

  • Java development experience with demonstrated skills in Patterns, framework, and 3 or 4-tier service-layer platforms.

  • Experience automating application deployments using tools and techniques.

  • Experience with JDBC and JEE technologies with ability to facilitate the sharing and exploration data through easy to use graphical interfaces and API endpoints.

  • Outstanding verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to communicate effectively even when not interacting face-to-face.

  • Excellent problem solving skills with ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions.

  • Superior interpersonal skills including courtesy, professionalism, and a cooperative attitude.

  • Experience leading and mentoring other developers and providing technical specs and/or documentation.

  • Ability to be flexible to handle multiple priorities and to work limited overtime;

  • Veteran status highly desired.

  • Previous experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
