Opportunity for a Build Engineer to join a fast-paced program that develops advanced IT solutions and services for a cloud hosted Enterprise Portal Application. The program objective is to design, build, or acquire innovative, cost-effective, and efficient Portal engineering services to meet the mission of CMS.

Position Description

The Dev/Ops Build Engineer will serve on the Enterprise Portal team. The Portal provides the customer with single sign-on, and makes use of micro-services. The build engineer will be part of the release team helping to bridge operations and development in order to improve our build, integration, and deployment procedures, our automated build pipeline, and our CI/CD systems. The build engineer will work closely with the development and QA teams to properly and efficiently build and deploy releases throughout the software development life cycle, as well as troubleshoot and resolve issues in our development, test and production AWS environments.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work in a dynamic and complex software build environment, and is highly skilled at optimizing build environments for speed and reliability. Some after-hours support may be needed for emergency or urgent situations.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate requirements meetings to finalize all change requests moving into upcoming release cycles

  • Merge code from different GIT branches

  • Create release build packages using build automation tools

  • Develop and maintain release documentation

  • Review test cases with the test team to ensure that all team members are up-to-date on changes being implemented

  • Execute Portal releases in accordance with release playbooks

  • Track change requests and bugs in the defect tracking tool

  • Maintain monthly/year-end documents for analytic purposes

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology

  • 2 or more years of DevOps and/or build & release experience, including delivery to production

  • 2 years of experience with version control systems (Git etc.), including branching and merging strategies

  • 2 years of experience with continuous delivery and integration tools: Jenkins, Nexus, Artifactory

  • 2 years of experience with build/SCM tools: Maven, Gradle, NPM

  • 1 year of experience writing build scripts using Python, Unix Shell (bash,ksh) or perl

  • 1 year of experience with automation/configuration management using Chef/Puppet/Ansible

  • 1 year of experience with Unix/Linux (hands-on)

  • 1 year of experience with AWS capabilities and architecture

Desired Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and working closely within small teams and vendors

  • AWS certification
