GDIT provides technical support services to the Office of Acquisition (OA) of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the nation’s largest law enforcement agency. Experienced GDIT personnel enhance CBP’s proficiencies in Systems Engineering, Logistics & Sustainment, and Capabilities and Requirements Development to provide CBP’s agents along our borders with the most capable systems which can affordably be procured. The team provides engineering and analytical expertise across a wide range of disciplines, meeting all DHS Systems Engineering Life Cycle mandated planning analysis and documentation; provide a full spectrum of Integrated Logistics Support; development of Operational Requirements; and conduct Operational Test & Evaluation activities. We help CBP procure the equipment and technology needed to keep the border safe and secure.
Currently, we are seeking a Civil Engineer (Construction engineer) in Crystal City, VA. The selected candidate must currently hold or be able to obtain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance, per contract requirements.
What is required of a Civil Engineer on day to day basis? There are a myriad of tasks and responsibilities, such as:
Leading and coordinating the management and implementation of facilities engineering and systems engineering processes, policies, guidance, activities, and artifacts for multiple assigned program offices throughout the systems engineering lifecycle
Providing proactive integral program support as a core member of the program’s systems engineering team throughout the Systems Engineering Life Cycle (SELC)
Performance and review of facilities engineering and systems engineering artifacts for supporting program planning, development, and implementation such as engineering submittals, as-built submittals, studies, calculations, assessments, and analyses.
Participation in deployment quality, observation, monitoring, testing, inspection, and field site surveys.
Providing multi-disciplinary project engineering support for collaboration with project stakeholders and interpreting and advising on facilities engineering requirements and expectations, as well as providing and coordinating facilities engineering support to projects.
Providing Subject Matter Expert consultations, research, technical advice, and recommendations as well as preparation of technical briefing materials, illustrative exhibits, drawings, and sketches
To qualify, you must meet these minimum qualifications:
Must be a US citizen.
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) suitability clearance (or ability to obtain).
Preferred; DoD Top Secret or higher
BS in Engineering or relevant technical discipline plus 5 - 10 years of experience (preferred 10 + years of experience).
2-5 years’ experience as a Civil/Construction/ Facilities engineer within the federal government or industry.
Good communication skills and ability to present analytical results (written or oral) to senior leadership (Military, DHS, Industry).
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (2013).
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience as aCivil/Construction/ facilities engineer within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) or Department of Defense (DoD)
Coursework completed (DAWIA or DHS) for certification level II or above in Systems Engineering or equivalent
Possess a current, favorable CBP Background Investigation (BI)
Subject Matter Expertise one or more of the following engineering areas including, but not limited to mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, grounding, surge, and lightning protection engineering, and HVAC engineering.
