Job Description:

We are seeking a Systems Solutions Architect in Stuttgart, Germany!

Essential Job Functions

Travels to remote locations to install technical solutions to support extension of EUCOM network enclaves to US Embassy and Ministry of Defense (MOD) locations in the European theater. Position requires the network complement to be integrated into the EUCOM data network by establishing various possible solutions to include site to site VPN utilizing a local ISP connection, Commercial Solution for Classified (CSfC), and Citrix remote access gateways. Follows standard procedures to possibly install and integrate Cisco, General Dynamics, Citrix NetScalers, and other equipment into the remote site location. Detects, identifies and performs problem isolation and resolution throughout the network architecture. Ability to troubleshoot on site a wide variety of local and wide area network issues that may arise. Will be required to assess and identify requisite IA controls and STIGs for network technologies and physical security and report findings. Utilizes monitoring, mapping and alerting software to perform network management by proactively collecting data and conducting real-time analysis of the performance of the network. At each site, performs functional testing in support of a System Operation and Verification Test (SOVT), verifying that all equipment on site functions as expected.


  • Conduct site surveys and develop recommendations on possible technical solutions and provide options to the J65 leadership.

  • Site surveys will include the Special Security Office (SSO) to capture physical security requirements which will feed the technical solution.

  • Existing solutions such as Type I encryption as well as Commercial Solution for Classified (CSfC) will be evaluated for viability. It is expected that there will be standard design package(s) created that will meet the different environments within the Department of State (DoS) Embassies and MoDs throughout Europe.

  • A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) will need to be authored and signed by both DoS and USEUCOM Authorizing Official (AO) covering each remote site. These agreements will also cover the service level agreements of the extended networks and define roles and responsibilities of the supporting IT service providers.

  • Network drawings and other required artifacts will be necessary to update the networks’ accreditation packages in the Risk Management Framework (RMF).

  • Life cycle sustainment plan will be developed that details the components required for the solution, cost of equipment, software, and proposed schedule for tech refresh.

  • Long term operations and maintenance will be evaluated and will be dependent on the technical solution developed.

The Systems Solutions Architect will:

  • Work to develop an advanced project plan, concept of operations, and standards for this enduring remote site support project.

  • Coordinates, supervises, and executes the project plan, design, and documentation required to support the introduction of new capabilities, and network enhancements.

  • Coordinates and directs activities for temporary consulting resources to carry out various aspects of the engineering phases of this large complex project.

  • Responsible for gathering customer requirements, developing project scope, charter, and working directly with engineering teams to author conceptual design plans, engineering plans, implementation plans, and operations turnover documentation in accordance with local USEUCOM configuration management requirements.

  • Must be able to participate in engineering reviews, articulate complex designs, and build decision briefs for leadership to make recommendations for new requirement solutions and architecture changes.

  • Responsible for the submission and tracking of hardware, software, and professional services procured to support this project.

Required Skills

  • Extensive experience in R&S topologies: Hands on experience in OS/LAN/WAN protocols pertaining to Cisco Hardware (IOS, NXOS, 802.1Q, VTP, Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol, QoS, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, NTP, and VoIP)

  • Experience in Virtual Private Networks (VPN): Site to Site, Remote Access, SSL, Dynamic Multipoint Virtual Private Network (DMVPN)

  • Experience in Security topologies: Firewalls, IPS/IDS

  • Experience with Network Management Tools: VMWare VCOPS, SNMP, Cisco NCM

  • Experience utilizing Enterprise ticketing system

  • Experience with Type 1 inline network encryptors

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Superior customer relationship skills and ability to brief leadership

  • Works well inside team environment, positive can do attitude is a must

  • Ability to work autonomously in remote EUCOM sites supporting all deployed technologies in production network

  • Basic electrical skills and understanding to assess and identify data networking equipment power requirements

  • Ability to make CAT5 network patch cables with experience in cable management and cable runs

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional(CCNP): one of the following: R&S, Data Center, Service Provider, Security

Desired Skills

  • Experience on EUCOM networks desired

  • Experience with Commercial Solution for Classified (CSfC)

  • Experience with virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments

  • Experience and or familiarity with Cisco equipment (3945E product line)

  • Familiarity with the DISA STIG and IAVM process

Qualifications / Certifications

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional(CCNP): one of the following: R&S, Data Center, Service Provider, Security

  • CISSP (or other DoD 8570.01-M IAT level 3 compliant certification)

  • One of the following computing environment certification is required

  • Net + CISCO Cert (CCNA, CCDA, CCNP)

Special Requirements

  • Candidates must have an active Secret Clearance

  • Extensive travel is required

  • Willingness to work flexible hours

  • Must meet TESA requirements
