Job Description:

We are seeking a Systems Administrator (GCCS) in Djibouti, Africa .


Builds on the capabilities of the Systems Administrator by incorporating Command & Control technologies as part of their skill set (e.g., Oracle Solaris, Oracle Database, Sybase SQL, LINUX/UNIX). Maintains enterprise information technology services (e.g., COP (Common Operational Picture) servers, Messaging Systems, Intelligence Databases, Remote Login services, News Servers). Oversees system security and data integrity. Assigns passwords and monitors use of resources. Oversees system recovery mechanisms. Leverages experience to provide input to improvements (People, Process, Tools, Technical) in the environment. Exhibits the capability to resolve issues independently; coordinate and communicate changes and major issues with the client and team members.

Additional duties include:

  • Provides for software installation, configuration, upgrade, support, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

  • Provides account management and access control.

  • Acts as a liaison with other components to provide information sharing pertaining to the needs of the diverse set of computer users supported by the client as a whole.

  • Evaluates, installs, maintains, and troubleshoots application and database services for on UNIX/LINUX servers. Manages clustering and virtualization technologies, working in a Multi-zone.

  • Provides problem determination, including interfacing with IT professionals to isolate the causes of problems.

  • Provides problem resolution and break/fix situations, including dealing with software and hardware vendor technical support.

  • Installs new/rebuilds existing servers and configures hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.

  • Installs and configures systems such as supports GIS infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications.

  • Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures.

  • Contributes to and maintains system standards.

  • Researches and recommends innovative and automated approaches for system administration tasks.

  • Identifies approaches that leverage resources and provide economies of scale.

  • Performs daily system monitoring; verifies the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes; reviews system and application logs; and verifies completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.

  • Performs daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes, or disks, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.

  • Performs regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.

  • Performs regular file archival and purges, as necessary.

NOTE - Special Requirements:

  • This is a 60-Hour/week position.

  • Position is located in Djibouti HOA.

  • Must complete tasks and training IAW Theater and Country Clearance requirements prior to deployment to the customer site.


  • Candidate must have an active Secret Clearance, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Clearance

  • CompTIA Security+ CE or other IAT DoD 8570.1 Technical Level III certification or higher

  • Must currently hold ONE of the following CE (Computing Environment) certifications:

UNIX Sys Admin cert

Other storage admin

Vmware certified prof.

Microsoft Virtualization comparable

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Willingness to work flexible hours

  • Shift work may be required

  • On Call Status may be required

  • Position requires a 60 hour work week

  • May be required to sign for equipment
