Job Description:

GDIT is looking for an Administrative Assistant to support the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Management, Security Services Program, under a contract for security support in the areas of personnel & physical security, communication, continuity, and IT security. Work location is the Lyndon Baines Johnson Building, 400 Maryland Ave, SW, Washington, DC, a half block from the National Mall.

The Administrative Assistant will manage visitors entering into the LBJ, building lobby as outlined in security services operating procedures for visitors. In addition to customer & visitor interaction as a front desk representative of the department’s headquarters, staff holding the required clearance will be cross-trained to provide back-up support for the badging & fingerprinting functions, including data entry into the access control and card management system, entering background investigation case data, and filing case documents associated with background investigation files.


  • Perform filing, information gathering and typing, requiring program knowledge and office skills

  • Open, sort, distribute/deliver and pick up internal mail, correspondence, etc.

  • Answer phones and receive visitors referring inquiries to other staff members, or handling routine matters.

  • Operate office machinery (computers, copier, etc.)

  • Enter computerized data into appropriate databases, verify data and prepare periodic reports in proper format and check spelling and grammar

  • Secondary duties include creating PIV and ID badges for employees and contractors, maintaining entry logs, preparing correspondence, filing case documents associated with background investigation files, entering background investigation case data into electronic systems, and preparing reports


  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus minimum of two years related experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task effectively while simultaneously interacting with visitors and agency representatives

  • Intermediate level skills with standard office software and equipment
